Benedictine Abbey of Steinfeld

The abbey was established in 1955 by German Benedictine nuns who had previously lived in difficult conditions in Hollerath. After acquiring a country house in Kall-Steinfeld in 1954, it was converted into a monastery with its own church between 1958 and 1959. Initially operating as a priory, the monastery gained independence in 1969 and was elevated to an abbey in 1972. For many years, the sisters ran a mother's convalescent home and inaugurated a guesthouse in 1986. In 2019, the Benedictine community relocated to Bonn, as the community had become smaller and older, necessitating a more age-appropriate monastery. The former monastery building in Steinfeld was taken over by the Trappistines of Maria Frieden Abbey in 2022 and has since served as their new home.

The former monastery is situated in Steinfeld, a district of the municipality of Kall in the Eifel region, within the Euskirchen district of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Today, the complex functions as Maria Frieden Abbey for the Trappistines. The guesthouse operates under the name “Haus St. Benedikt” and is managed by the neighboring Salvatorian monastery.
