Benediktinerinnen zur Heiligen Maria Abbey (Fulda)

The Benedictine Abbey of St. Mary is a Benedictine monastery founded in 1626 in the city center of Fulda.

The sisters operate various craft workshops, a monastery garden, and a monastery shop, and produce a compost activator.

The monastery church, built between 1629 and 1631 – popularly known as the "Nuns' Church" – was constructed in the forms of late Gothic and Renaissance styles and features a striking west facade designed with large pointed arch windows and a Renaissance gable.

The foundation stone for the construction of the church and monastery of the Benedictine nuns was laid by the Fulda Prince-Abbot Johann Bernhard Schenck zu Schweinsberg (1623–1632).

The first decades were marked by great difficulties due to the Thirty Years' War; the sisters had to flee several times from enemy troops, and the monastery was plundered a few times.
