The former Benedictine monastery of Mettlach, a cultural monument of the Saarland, is located in the Merzig-Wadern region of the Saarland. This historic complex was once an important center of the Benedictine order and is now known for its long history.
History+
The monastery of Mettlach was founded around the years 695-706. It was consecrated to Saints Peter, Paul, Liutwinus, and Mary and established itself as a Benedictine abbey. For centuries, the monastery shaped the region until it was dissolved in 1803 during the secularization.
