The former Benedictine Provostry of Gurtweil, a historic monastery in Baden-Württemberg, is located near Waldshut. Its history dates back to the 17th century and is closely linked to the Benedictine Order, which was active here for many years.
History+
The Provostry of Gurtweil was founded in 1646, with its existence as a monastery confirmed from 1697. It was placed under the patronage of Saints Konrad, Simon, and Jude Thaddeus. For a long period, the Benedictines shaped the spiritual and cultural life of this place. In the course of secularization, the Provostry of Gurtweil was dissolved in 1807, marking the end of its monastic function.
