History+
The origins of Gleink Abbey trace back to the early 12th century, emerging from the Bamberg fiefdom of Glunich shortly after the founding of Garsten Abbey. The ministerial family Gleink-Volkersdorfer, specifically Arnhalm I and his son Bruno, oversaw the conversion of the fortress into a monastic complex. By around 1120, the monastery, dedicated to the Apostle Andrew, was already established. Gleink served as a daughter foundation of Garsten Abbey, from which its first abbot, Ulrich, originated. The Romanesque structure suffered repeated damage from fires. Following the Hungarian Wars, the abbey experienced a flourishing era under Abbot Gregor Grand (1504–1520).
