The residential tower of Berneburg Castle is a historic structure in Berneburg, a district of Sontra in the Werra-Meißner district of Hesse.

History+

The origins of Berneburg Castle date back to 1385, when the original complex was destroyed. Shortly thereafter, the current residential tower was built. Its first documented mention occurred in 1435. The five-story building features coupled window openings on its top floor. The entrance is high on the north side of the tower. In 1656, a half-timbered house was added to the tower, built for Hans Ernst von Biedenfeld.
