The ruins of Bewcastle Castle are located in Cumbria, in northwestern England. The site has a past that dates back to Roman times and is marked by destruction and reconstruction.
History+
The origins of Bewcastle Castle lie on the foundations of a Roman fort, on which the first castle was built around the year 1092. It was destroyed as early as 1173. Towards the end of the 14th century, a reconstruction took place, but decay set in again in the early 15th century. After another restoration, the castle's history came to a definitive end in 1641, when it was destroyed for the last time.
