The Tower can not be visited

On an island in the Rhine in front of the Bingerbrück district of Bingen stands the Binger Mäuseturm, a former defensive and watchtower.

History+

The Binger Mäuseturm was erected in the first half of the 14th century. Its original function was that of a customs watchtower, supplementing the customs system of the nearby Ehrenfels Castle or serving as a signal tower to prevent ship collisions in the Binger Loch. The tower suffered damage during the Thirty Years' War and the War of the Palatine Succession in 1689. A repair was carried out in 1845 by the Prussian government for use as a signalling station.
