The Episcopal Residence in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee is a historic castle that serves as the seat of the Bishops of Gurk. This structure is late Baroque and early Classicist architecture in Carinthia, Austria.

History+

The construction of the Episcopal Residence took place between 1769 and 1776, based on the designs of Nikolaus von Pacassi. Around 1780, the building was likely revised by Franz Anton Hillebrand. Initially, the palace served as a residence for Archduchess Marianne. Since 1789, the residence has functioned as the official seat of the Bishops of Gurk.

The castle is situated in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, within the district of Klagenfurt Stadt, in the federal state of Carinthia, Austria. It is located at an elevation of approximately 449 meters above sea level.

Today, the Episcopal Residence is privately owned. The palace is a two-story building arranged around a horseshoe-shaped courtyard of honor. The facade is structured by paired pilasters, and the nine-axis main front features a flat, gabled central risalit.
