Markdorf Castle
The Bishop's Castle is a historic building in the old town of Markdorf in the Bodenseekreis in the south of Baden-Württemberg.
The Bishop's Castle was first mentioned around 1300 by Markdorf or Homburg knights. The current castle was built in 1510. From 1529 to 1531, the castle served as the residence of Hugo von Landenberg. Additionally, it served as a summer residence for the Bishops of Constance. His successor was Imperial Vice-Chancellor Balthasar Merklin. In 1536, Cardinal Prince-Bishop Markus Sittich had the garden built. The lower and upper floors were completely rebuilt in 1731. The upper floor served as a knight's hall and is now used as a ballroom. Currently, the building is a hotel.
