In Obernzenn stand the Blue and Red Castles, two late Baroque structures. These castles, named after the colors of their facades, rise on the foundations of a medieval predecessor.

History+

The history of the castle complex is linked to the von Seckendorff family, who were resident in Obernzenn in the 13th century. The Blue Castle was built in several phases: Christoph Sigmund von Seckendorff-Aberdar began construction of the north wing in 1696. His son Philipp Albrecht continued the work between 1711 and 1718 with the east wing, possibly with the involvement of court architect Gabriel de Gabrieli. Christoph Ludwig von Seckendorff-Aberdar, Christoph Sigmund's grandson and an advisor to the Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach, finally had the west wing built. An alliance coat of arms of Seckendorff and Cronfeld has adorned the castle since 1759. In parallel, the Red Castle was built starting in 1745.
