The Bürglaß-Schlösschen in Coburg is a neoclassical building from the 18th century.

History+

On the site of the present-day palace, two houses once stood, acquired by the Gottsmann family in 1572. After several changes of ownership, including Duchess Elisabeth Sophia of Saxe-Coburg-Meiningen, Prince Friedrich Josias acquired the area in 1794. He had the existing buildings rebuilt to create the current neoclassical Bürglaß-Schlösschen as his retirement residence. After his death in 1815, the property reverted to the Ducal House of Saxe-Coburg. Duchess Auguste used it as her widow's residence from 1816, which gave it the name Augusten-Palais. Later, from 1925, Tsar Ferdinand of Bulgaria lived in the palace for 30 years after his abdication, leading to its other name, Bulgaren-Schlösschen.
