History+

The Federal Fortress of Ulm, to which Fort Safranberg belongs, was constructed between 1842 and 1859. It was one of five federal fortresses financed by the German Confederation after the Napoleonic Wars to ensure the security of its member states. Fort Safranberg itself was built between 1855 and 1858 under the direction of Württemberg Lieutenant Blumhardt. Designed as a half-lunette, it could accommodate up to 66 soldiers.
