The Ulm-Mittelbastion Federal Fortress is a component of the former Federal Fortress of Ulm, one of Europe's largest fortifications. Located in Ulm, Baden-Württemberg, it stands as a testament to the impressive military architecture of the 19th century.

History+

The Mittelbastion was constructed between 1843 and 1855 under the supervision of Nassauian First Lieutenant von Sachs. Originally, it featured a rampart system, a wet moat, an escarpe, a tenaille in the left shoulder, and a caponniere in the right. Within the salient, a bonnet casemate, a throwing battery, and a hollow traverse were integrated into the rampart. A small octagonal réduit, also known as the “Böblinger Turm,” was centrally located on the gorge side.
