In the Alberoda district of Aue in the Erzgebirgskreis, Saxony, is Alberoded Castle, once a moated castle. Today, it combines residential living and gastronomy under one roof.

History+

The origins of the complex date back to the 12th century, when a defensive structure with a moat and a rampart was built. Its function was to protect the old trade route to Bohemia. The castle was first documented in 1424. After a fire in 1617, it was rebuilt in the same year to its current size. Ownership changed frequently, including the families von Oelsnitz, von Schönburg, and von Milkau.
