Alsbach Castle (Engelskirchen)
Alsbach Water Castle, also known as Haus Alsbach, is a fortified manor house in Engelskirchen (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany).
It was first documented in 1373 as "zu me hove". Accompanied by frequent changes of ownership, it was built between 1622 and 1627 – presumably on the foundations of an older castle. In 1896, Haus Alsbach was extensively rebuilt. The current owner is Pius Graf von Spee.
The manor house is completely surrounded by a moat; an outer bailey located to the northwest is still outside. A southern garden parterre is connected to the manor house by a bridge. The house is accessible via a narrow, approximately 300-meter-long driveway. Viewing of the house is only possible from the outside.
Rittmeister Wienand Ruttger von Quadt zu Alsbach is said to have been the lord of the noble residence Haus Alsbach in Engelskirchen in the 17th century. The Schlossgarde Engelskirchen commemorates him and his history.
