Altpernstein Castle

The origins of Alt-Pernstein Castle date back to the year 1000, with first documentary mentions in 1160 and 1207. In the 12th century, Pillung von Pernstein resided here as a ministerialis of the Otakars. Later, in 1222, the Truchsener family took over the fief and converted it into free property. In 1337, ownership passed to Governor Eberhard von Walsee. Duke Albrecht III of Habsburg enfeoffed Johann I von Liechtenstein with the castle in 1394. The castle experienced a construction phase under the Jörger family, who acquired it in 1581 and built the longhouse. From 1623, Adam Graf von Herberstorff was the owner, before Kremsmünster Abbey acquired the complex in 1629 and still owns it today.
