Barciany (Barten) Castle

The castle was built in 1325 by the Brandenburg Commandery on the site of a Prussian refuge castle in Barten. Initially, it was the seat of vogts and caretakers. Under Grand Master Winrich von Kniprode, the castle became a commandery in 1377 and was then massively expanded. Heinrich von Plauen resided here from 1402 to 1406 as a caretaker. At the beginning of the Thirteen Years' War, the castle was severely damaged by a fire, but was rebuilt afterwards. Due to financial problems, the Order had to pledge the castle in 1480. From 1533 it was the seat of a district administrator and from 1842 it functioned as an agricultural estate. In the First World War, the north wing burned out and after the Second World War, the castle and estate were nationalized. In 2000, the former castle was auctioned off and then stood empty.
