Beersel Castle, a late-medieval lowland castle, is located in the Belgian municipality of Beersel near Brussels in Flemish Brabant. Its red brick facade and horseshoe-shaped towers are an example of medieval defensive architecture.

History+

The origins of Beersel Castle date back to the years between 1300 and 1310. During the Flanders Uprising in 1489, the complex experienced two sieges and conquests. Following these events, the castle was rebuilt in 1491, receiving its three horseshoe-shaped towers, whose design, possibly under French influence, was intended to better deflect cannonballs. Since 1544, the castle has remained unoccupied, which has preserved its interiors in their original state to this day.
