Beeskow Castle

First documented in 1272, Beeskow Castle was originally owned by the Lords of Strehle, who used it, along with other moated castles such as Storkow Castle, as part of a defense network in the Mittelmark. Between 1377 and 1382, the castle passed by inheritance to the Lords of Bieberstein. In 1518, Ulrich von Bieberstein pledged the complex to Dietrich von Bülow, the Bishop of Lebus, who transformed it into an episcopal residence. In 1556, the castle and lordship came into the possession of Margrave Johann I of Brandenburg-Küstrin. After his death in 1575, the castle finally fell to the Electors of Brandenburg and served the Hohenzollerns as an administrative building until 1915. Subsequently, the city of Beeskow acquired the complex and continued to use it for administrative and economic purposes.
