Binsfeld Castle, a moated castle built in the Early Renaissance style, is situated in Binsfeld, a district of Nörvenich in the Düren district, North Rhine-Westphalia. With its characteristic loggias, it is considered one of the architecturally most significant secular buildings in the Rhineland.

History+

The castle's origins date back to 1397, when Knight Heinrich Mule von Binsfeld surrendered a castle he had built, along with its jurisdiction, to the Duke of Jülich as a fief. In 1533, Werner von Binsfeld undertook a reconstruction of the manor house, partly on the foundations of the older complex. The rectangular brick building was originally surrounded by water, separated from the outer bailey. It has three stories on the field side and two on the courtyard side. A round tower adorns the southeast corner, while an octagonal stair tower marks the northeast corner.
