In Bollendorf in the Southern Eifel, a historic structure stands on a rock in the Sauer river valley. Originally built on the foundations of a Roman fortification, it served as an administrative seat and is now a hotel.

History+

The exact time of origin is unknown, but as early as 716, ownership transferred to Echternach Abbey. Until the end of the 18th century, the castle functioned as the seat of a sub-provostry responsible for administering the Bollendorf, Ernzen, and Irrel manors. In 1619, Abbot Peter Richardt had the southwest corner converted into a residence, adding a spiral staircase.
