Brattenstein Castle
Brattenstein Castle is a High Medieval castle complex in the town of Röttingen in the Würzburg district in the Tauber Valley.
The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1230. Between 1230 and 1345, the castle was owned by the Lords of Hohenlohe. From 1345 onwards, there were changing owners, including the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg. Around 1440, the castle, originally located outside the town, was incorporated into the town wall. In the 16th century, the castle served as a residence for a prince-bishop's bailiff. In the 19th century, the Rentamt (revenue office) was housed in the castle. In 1971, parts of the castle collapsed after construction work. The castle was restored in the following years.
Since 1984, the Röttingen Festival has taken place in the castle courtyard.
