Breidenbach Castle

In the village of Oberbreidenbach once lived members of the lower Bergisch nobility. Therefore, there is a fortified house in Oberbreidenbach, which essentially dates from the 17th century (later modernized and adapted to the present day).

Originally, above the ground-level cellar, there were two high residential floors made of unplastered quarry stone. The segmental arch windows are still visible today in the masonry of the southern and western sides of the building. The interior has now been converted into three floors, each with six window axes on the long sides. Masonry remains found to the east suggest that the castle once had a greater extent in this direction.

To the north of the building, a sandstone slab with a relief-like alliance coat of arms is attached. Due to the subsequently added extension, this unfortunately cannot be determined more precisely.
