Breuberg Castle (Neustadt)

The origins of Breuberg Castle date back to the early 13th century, when it was likely founded around 1200 by the Imperial Abbey of Fulda to protect its possessions in the Odenwald. The Vogtship was taken over by the Lords of Lützelbach, who subsequently named themselves after the castle. With the extinction of the Breuberg lineage in 1323, the property was divided, leading to complex ownership structures. It was not until 1497 that the Counts of Wertheim managed to acquire the castle entirely. During this period, construction work took place, including adapting the fortifications for firearms.
