Burggrumbach Castle

Burggrumbach Castle is a castle located in the Burggrumbach district of the Lower Franconian municipality of Unterpleichfeld. It is registered as a historical monument in the Bavarian List of Monuments.

Built in the 11th century, the castle originally belonged to the noble free lords of Grumbach, who died out in the male line in 1243. Subsequently, the property passed to the Counts of Rieneck in 1243. In 1282, Wolflin von Wolfskeel, who came from the ancient Franconian nobility, bought 1/3 of the castle. In 1328, Eberhard von Wolfskeel also bought the remaining 2/3 of the castle. The part of the Wolfskeel family that settled in Burggrumbach named themselves "Wolfskeel von Grumbach" after their new seat, later simply "von Grumbach". Later, the castle passed to the Diocese of Würzburg. In 1692, a rectory was built next to the palas.
