Burglengenfeld Castle, also known as Lengenfeld Castle, is above the town of the same name in the Upper Palatinate. It is considered one of Bavaria's best-preserved castle complexes from the Salian period and now houses a therapeutic educational center.

History+

The origins of the castle complex may date back to the 9th or 10th century, with the first documented evidence for the Lords of Lengenfeld around 1050. It is believed that around 1100, the central round tower and the curtain wall with its gate system were constructed. After the death of Count Friedrich III of Lengenfeld around 1119/1120, the castle passed into the possession of the Wittelsbach family. Under Count Palatine Otto V of Bavaria, the complex was further fortified, leading to the construction of the Sinzenhofer Tower to secure the gate. During the Landshut War of Succession, the castle was damaged and later assigned to the newly established Duchy of Palatinate-Neuburg.
