Burg Burgschleinitz, a former fortress of the Austrian ministerial family von Schleunz, stands at an elevation of approximately 363 meters above sea level in the municipality of Burgschleinitz-Kühnring in the Horn district, Lower Austria. It is surrounded by a flooded moat.

History+

Burg Burgschleinitz was the ancestral seat of a ministerial family. In 1260, the last representative of this family, Otto von Schleunz, died in battle against the Hungarians near Staatz. Subsequently, the castle changed hands multiple times. In 1480, Hussite troops under Wenzel Wlčeks managed to occupy the castle. Two years later, in 1482, it was recaptured by Austrian troops and completely destroyed in the process. Reconstruction of the complex began around 1543, and it was expanded from approximately 1589 under Georg Bayer von Niederdürnbach.
