Buschdorf Castle

The Buschdorf Castle was an old knight's seat, first mentioned in a document in 1217, whose task was to secure the path between Bonn and Aachen. This path, later called the "Aachener Weg" (Aachen Way), was important because a lot of trade and many troop movements of the armies of that time took place along it. To protect this path, the castle was equipped with moats and two-meter-thick walls, which could have repelled almost any enemy.

However, not much of this castle remains today. A fire in 1874 destroyed large parts of the castle. The only thing left of the former castle is the tower, which, however, is said to have been taller in the past. In addition, the large moats were filled in and a park was created, which now surrounds the castle.
