Museum

In the municipality of Coppenbrügge in the Hameln-Pyrmont district of Lower Saxony, Coppenbrügge Castle, a well-preserved water castle ruin, is located. Once the center of a county and protector of an important trade route, it now houses a museum.

History+

Between 1280 and 1300, the Counts of Spiegelberg erected this water castle to secure their county and control the military and trade route from Aachen to Königsberg, which here crossed a marshy area via a corduroy road. The newly built complex was first documented in 1303. After damage during the "Spiegelberg Feud" in 1434, when the counts were considered robber knights, it was rebuilt around 1494 in the early Renaissance style, after the impoverished Spiegelbergs had inherited the County of Pyrmont.
