Dreiborn Castle

Dreiborn Castle is a listed secular building in Dreiborn, a district of Schleiden in the Euskirchen district (North Rhine-Westphalia).

The complex is the highest-lying moated castle in the Rhineland. The originally two-part rectangular complex, surrounded by a wide moat, was accessible from the south. It was built of quarry stone and is partially plastered. The main castle was formerly four-winged. Of the late medieval complex, only the now freestanding round southwest tower of the former main castle and the curtain walls of the three-winged outer bailey, which are provided with two round corner towers, remain. The two-story residential building of the main castle with a lantern-crowned corner tower and the core of the southern outer bailey wing were built during an expansion from 1680 to 1695. The former official's house and the north wing of the outer bailey date in their core from the second half of the 18th century. A baroque roadside chapel is located on the country road and a small pavilion stands on the old garden wall.

After initially changing owners, Dreiborn was owned by the von Harff family for almost 400 years (between 1584 and 1982) and then passed by inheritance to the Raitz von Frentz family.
