Dreis Castle

Dreiser Castle is first mentioned in 1579. The building is identified in a enfeoffment document as the official residence of the bailiff Jacob Demeradt and his wife Maria, an illegitimate daughter of the Count of Manderscheid. The Count of Manderscheid had the castle built for this illegitimate daughter Maria. The castle was used by the Count of Manderscheid as accommodation during hunts and fishing trips. In the following centuries, members of the Fischer and Stoll families were the rightful feudal lords. In the course of further branching, the Müller and Knorr families were added. In 1975, the sisters Mathilde Eulenberg and Brigitte Leclaire (from the Knorr line) sold the castle. After that, it changed owners several times.

The sale made extensive interior and exterior restorations possible, which returned the castle to its original state. Before the restoration, the castle no longer had corner turrets. The stairwell tower did not have its current height and no longer ended in a spire. Since the end of 2012, the castle and its associated outbuildings have been owned by Hans-Günter Hoffmann von Guretzky-Cornitz.
