Dringenberg Castle, a medieval fortress, is located in Dringenberg, a district of Bad Driburg in the Höxter district, North Rhine-Westphalia. It is one of the most significant state castles of the Prince-Bishopric of Paderborn.

History+

The origins of Dringenberg Castle date back to the early 14th century. After Bishop Bernhard V. zur Lippe acquired the free county of Dringen in 1316, he had a mountain spur cleared from 1318 and a fortified castle built there by 1323. This led to the settlement of the first inhabitants and the emergence of the village of Dringenberg. Between 1463 and 1498, Prince-Bishop Simon III. zur Lippe initiated extensive construction and restoration work, including the construction of the gatehouse with the castle chapel and the southeast wing with the keep.
