Drove Castle

The earliest mention of a lord of Drove, Reinhard von Drove, dates back to 1239. The original castle, of which only a rectangular, moated area remains today, passed to the von Müllenark-Hunghen family in the mid-13th century. After several changes of ownership, including the von Roir and von Weworden families, the castle came into the possession of the von Elmpt family through marriage. During the Thirty Years' War, the complex suffered severe damage, which was repeated in 1673 during the wars against Louis XIV, after which it was never fully restored.
