In Ostinghausen, a district of Bad Sassendorf in North Rhine-Westphalia, Burg Düsse is a historic moated castle. Originally built in the 17th century, it now serves as an agricultural teaching and research institution dedicated to animal and plant production.

History+

The first documented mention of the Ostinghausen manor, the predecessor of today's Burg Düsse, dates back to 1231. It was part of the possessions of the Counts of Arnsberg and changed hands several times among various Westphalian noble families until 1641. In 1641, Adrian van der Düssen acquired the estate. Between 1641 and 1655, he had a new moated castle built as a manor house, which was named “Haus Düsse”. Through marriage, the castle passed to the Ledebur-Wicheln family in 1741 and later, in 1889, to Friedrich von Landsberg-Velen und Gemen.
