Ehrenberg Castle

The origins of Ehrenberg Castle date back to the early 12th century, with its construction attributed to the Counts of Lauffen. By 1193 at the latest, it became the home of the Lords of Ehrenberg, who, as vassals of the Staufer dynasty, were closely connected to the imperial palace in Wimpfen. In some places, the castle is even considered an outpost defense of Wimpfen. The oldest part of the complex is the approximately two-meter-thick curtain wall of the core castle. The buildings of the core castle, whose stone foundations date from the 12th and 13th centuries, were severely damaged during the Thirty Years' War. Preserved are the keep from 1235, which was once 60 meters high and now measures 50 meters, as well as an approximately 15-meter-high gable of a core castle building.
