Engelsburg Castle (Recklinghausen)

Around 1701, the Electoral Cologne governor and judge Clamor Constantin Münch had a residence built here, consisting of a manor house and an economic wing. A rectangular tower with a Welsch dome adorned the corner of the wings. In 1712, Münch acquired a part of the medieval city wall and integrated the southern watchtower, the Stephansturm, into the west wing, which was built until 1715. After Münch's death in 1751, his granddaughter Catharina Biesten inherited the complex, which became known as Bissinghus. In 1802, Duke Ludwig-Engelbert von Arenberg established his administrative seat here.
