Engelsdorf Castle, a former moated castle, is located in Aldenhoven in the Düren district, North Rhine-Westphalia. The thick walls and the moat fed by the Merzbach are preserved.

History+

First documented in 1080, Engelsdorf Castle served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Engelsdorf. It was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. A settlement from 1476 led to shares of the castle passing to the nephews and brothers of the Aachen provost Reynart von Palant, giving it the character of a joint-heir castle. However, these shares were immediately sold on to Emont zu Pralant.
