Falkenberg Castle

The first indirect mention of the castle occurred in 1154 through the naming of a “Pilegrin de Valkenberch”. The castle complex changed hands multiple times: initially held by the Falkenberg family, it passed to the Leuchtenberg family around 1280. Around 1300, it came into the possession of Waldsassen Monastery, before becoming Palatine property around 1571. Towards the end of the Thirty Years' War, the castle was shelled and captured by Swedish troops under General Königsmarck. During secularization in 1803, it became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria. A section of the keep was dismantled in 1809 to provide building materials for the rectory.
