Flamersheim Castle

Flamersheim Castle, also known as Flamersheim Palace, is a former moated castle on the Flämmerbach stream in the Flamersheim district of Euskirchen in the Euskirchen district of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The foundation of the castle goes back to noble bailiffs who managed the church property, a demesne of the Cologne collegiate church of St. Maria ad Gradus, and wanted to secure their inheritance claims.

On June 1, 1358, the castle was already mentioned as a two-part noble residence with an outer bailey.

Later, the castle came as a Jülich fief successively to various families. In the 200 years between 1564 and 1774, the castle became a stronghold of Protestant doctrine, for which an evangelical church was built around 1770 on the market square. The Lords of Quadt, who resided in Flamersheim from 1564 until the mid-18th century, converted the main castle into a two-towered Baroque palace in 1776.
