Fürsteneck Castle

The origins of Fürsteneck Castle date back to the 13th century, when it was presumably built under Prince-Abbot Heinrich V von Weilnau as a border fortification for the Prince-Bishopric of Fulda, with its first mention in 1309. For centuries, the complex was associated with Fulda Abbey, although it was repeatedly pledged or sold due to financial difficulties, including to Berthold von Wiesenfeld and Otto von Buchenau. In 1532, the abbey reacquired the castle. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle suffered destruction. Abbot Adalbert von Schleifras had it rebuilt in the early 18th century.
