Hasegg Castle

Cultural center

Hasegg Castle stands in Hall in Tirol and is linked to the region's history of salt production and coin minting. Its location on the Inn River made it a stronghold for securing local riches.

History+

Hasegg Castle was first mentioned in documents in 1465, when the first construction phase had already been completed and a caretaker appointed. Its origins date back to 1296, when a tower in the salt works was mentioned. The castle served to protect the Hall salt works and the Inn bridge. A city fire in 1447 may have prompted its expansion. The structural development was the responsibility of the salt master. Under Emperor Maximilian I, a renovation took place around 1499, creating a hall and several rooms. Around 1500, the Mint Tower was expanded, and around 1515, the chapel wing was erected.
