Hausen Castle

First mentions of a “Gerlach von Hausen” date back to 1348, indicating the castle's origins in the 14th century as a ministerial castle of the Dukes of Jülich. In the early 16th century, the moated castle passed from the Lords of Hausen to the von Berg zu Blens family. Through marriage, it came into the possession of Dietrich Kolff, who married Ida Spies von Büllesheim in 1571. He had the largely preserved four-winged castle complex built from quarry stone. Much of the outer walls, the east wing, and the two-story manor house date from this construction phase.
