Heid Castle (Lampaden)

Heid Castle, also known as Haid Castle or Heid Manor, is a castle located at approximately 330 m above sea level near the former train station of the municipality of Lampaden in the Trier-Saarburg district in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Heid Castle is situated on the road between Lampaden and Heddert in the municipal area of Schillingen, near the Heider Mühle Castle and the Heidkopf, which has an elevation of 530 m above sea level.

The Heid Manor, which originated in the 14th century on the Schillingen and Heddert bans, was owned by the Trier Cathedral Chapter in the 18th century. In 1804, the art collector Peter Job Hermes acquired the property through auction. Around 1850, his nephew Johann Peter Job Nell converted the property into a knight's estate and manor house, and over time, the name "Burg" (castle) became established. A created pond suggests the possibility of a moated castle, which is also indicated by the coat of arms above the entrance gate between the gate towers.

In 1932, the von Nell family gave up the agricultural business, and in the same year, General Director Achter from Mönchengladbach acquired the estate, which is now managed by his son, Helmut Achter, independently.

The romantic castle complex features two gate towers with helmet roofs and an entrance gate in between, above which the large sandstone-carved coat of arms of the von Nell zu Thomenacher family is located, and to which a large round tower, a keep, and a stable building of the same form are attached.

The half-shell basin adorned with shell ribs on the front of the main building dates back to the 18th century. More recently, the former well post was replaced by a red sandstone pillar and now supports a Madonna figure carrying the child on her right arm.
