Hinta Castle

As early as the 14th century, two chieftain's castles existed in Hinte. The later Hinta Castle, then called Osterburg, was built in the Gothic style by the Probst chieftains at the end of the 13th century. A part is the single-story stone house in the west wing, known as the Hohe Haus, whose stepped gable on the south side has been preserved. This was built by the chieftains Aild and Frederik Allena. In 1443, the Hanseatic League destroyed Westerburg, the other chieftain's castle in Hinte. Osterburg was spared such destruction. In 1602, the castle was occupied by Emden troops during the Emden Revolution but was soon recaptured by comital forces. In 1704, a castle gate in Renaissance style was added.
