Hof Castle

The history of Burg Hof is linked to the noble family of Hofer, first documented around 1150 as ministerials of the Wittelsbachs. This family gained political influence by the mid-13th century. In 1340, a family dispute led to the division into the lines “Hofer auf Hof” and “Hofer auf Lobenstein.” Later branches of the family called themselves “Hofer zu Sünching” and also owned castles such as Sengersberg and Drachenstein. The Hofer auf Hof line ended in the late 15th century. In 1735, the Lords of Fischbach took over the castle and the associated Hofmark, before it passed to Lieutenant General Wilhelm Karl Graf von Eckart in 1801.
