Holzheim Castle, a lowland castle, is situated west of Heistern within the municipality of Langerwehe. Its origins trace back to the 14th century.

History+

The first documented mention of Holzheim Castle dates to the year 1333, at which time its owners were subject to the Duchy of Jülich. Between the 15th and 17th centuries, the complex underwent expansions, during which the still-existing manor house and the gate tower were constructed. In 1818, when the region was already part of the Prussian district of Düren, the castle and its associated lands were sold to private individuals.
