Juntersdorf Castle

Juntersdorf Castle is located on the outskirts of Juntersdorf, a district of Zülpich in the Euskirchen district of North Rhine-Westphalia, at Astreastraße No. 6.

Juntersdorf Castle is a listed two-part moated castle made of quarry stone masonry.

The former Prüm fief became a Nideggen castle fief around 1400. In 1443, the von Guntersdorfs sold the property to the knight Reinhard Brent von Vernich. In 1463, Degenhard Haes zu Türnich appears as the fief holder. On December 4, 1494, Wilhelma von Linzenich and her children exchanged Konradsheim Castle for Juntersdorf Castle. Through marriage, the castle later came into the possession of the von Koelgraven and the von Holzheim families. Johann Wilhelm von Harff also acquired this property through marriage. In 1627, he carried out major repairs to the castle. The stone in the manor house, which was still legible until a few years ago, bore this year in addition to the family crests.

The parliamentary knight's seat then passed by inheritance to his son Balduin. From him, his sister Agnes inherited it, who brought Juntersdorf to her husband Johann Heinrich Spies von Büllesheim zu Bubenheim. The next owner was the heiress Philippine Isabella Klara Spies von Büllesheim. She married Johann Franz Berghe von Trips. He was named as owner in the Codex Welser in 1723. From the beginning of the 19th century, the von Berghe zu Trips moved to Hemmersbach Castle. Juntersdorf became a leased estate. After two fires in 1848 and 1883, the castle had to be almost completely rebuilt and also enlarged. The current owner family Rolff acquired Juntersdorf Castle from Count Eduard Berghe von Trips zu Hemmersbach.

The moats of the moated castle have long since been filled in. The former castle today consists only of a large farmyard and a residential building. The farm buildings are arranged as a three-wing complex in front of the manor house to the east. The northern wing with its new gatehouse from 1883 connects directly to the manor house.

Juntersdorf Castle was entered into the monument list of the city of Zülpich on November 24, 1981, under number 19.
