Kadaň Castle, also known as Kaaden, is a historic fortress in the Czech Republic. Originally built as a Gothic castle, it once served as a royal administrative seat and continues to shape the cityscape of Kadaň.

History+

The foundation of Kadaň Castle dates back to around 1250, intended to provide a residence for the royal administrator. In 1421, the complex suffered partial damage from Crusaders, shortly after being taken by Hussites. King George of Poděbrady ordered a renovation in 1467. In the early 16th century, specifically 1504, Johann von Lobkowicz had the dilapidated castle rebuilt, causing it to lose its original Gothic appearance. The castle suffered severe destruction during the Thirty Years' War, especially at the hands of Swedish troops.
