Kinzweiler Castle

The origins of Kinzweiler Castle date back to 1420 when the von Palant family acquired the lordship of Kinzweiler. They replaced the existing mottes with a new castle complex, built by Dietrich von Palant at the beginning of the 16th century. The castle remained in the family's possession until 1639 before passing to Count Philipp Dietrich von Waldeck. In 1707, Duke Ernst Friedrich I of Sachsen-Hildburghausen acquired the property, whose descendants sold it in 1747 to Elector Karl Theodor of the Palatinate. He had the castle redesigned in the Baroque style in the mid-18th century.
